“I can fly.”
“No you can’t!”
“Can too!”
“Prove it!”
“Fine!”
He looked around until his eyes landed on the tree with branches like a gnarled ladder. He had climbed it many times, and knew that even climbing to the top was considered a feat unmatched in the park.
A crowd gathered as he climbed, their voices changing from intrigue to concern to panic as he reached the top. A group of adults below grabbed a picnic blanket, readying to catch him.
As he leapt, they watched with open mouths as he soared upwards with the starlings he had disturbed.
