Microfiction Day 364 – ‘All of us Stars’

“Why are stars beautiful?”

She craned her neck up to follow her daughter’s gaze. The cold, winter’s day had led to a night sky as clear as freshly frozen water.

“Why do you think they are?”

She bit her rosebud lip. “Because they’re twinkly!”

“That’s definitely part of it. Do you know why I think they’re beautiful?”

“Why mummy?”

“Because they’re you. They’re me. They’re all of us. We’re the same as stars my darling girl.”

“But I’m not twinkly mummy.”

“You have the same ingredients. Calcium, carbon, iron, nitrogen. You have them all. And one day you will shine.”
